Barbara Jean Dunn of Cottontown, Tennessee, was known and loved by many for her charming vegetable stand that became a staple in the Northern Middle Tennessee area. After retiring from her job as a custodian for Sumner County Schools, Barbara embraced a new chapter of her life centered around her passion for fresh, locally grown produce. Starting her veggie stand in 2012, she served the community every spring through early fall with fresh farm-raised vegetables, honey, fruits, and homemade jams.
Barbara’s veggie stand was not just a place to buy fresh food; it was a place where people from all walks of life came together. Her friendly, upbeat attitude and dedication to honesty made her stand unique. One special thing about the stand was that Barbara never used scales for pricing—she believed in keeping prices low and giving customers more for their money. Her motto, “reliable and honesty,” won her many loyal customers who returned year after year.
Though the veggie stand originally operated at 31-W in Cross Plains, Barbara relocated it in 2023 to her own front yard in Cottontown. Despite the move, the quality of the produce and the warm customer service remained as excellent as ever. Her stand was recognized for being a dependable spot to find fresh, affordable, and wholesome food, helping the community stay connected to local agriculture.
Barbara enjoyed more than just tending to her veggie stand. She loved playing solitaire and visiting Kentucky Downs. Her life was marked by a deep connection to her community, and she delighted in meeting countless people daily through her stand.
Barbara Jean Dunn passed away in January 2024, but her legacy through her vegetable stand and the genuine warmth she shared with her customers continues to be remembered fondly by the people of Cottontown and surrounding areas.
