Barbara was born 19, July 1947. One of 12 children to the late Burl and Eva Walker Dunn.
Barbara raised two children (boys) Roy and Lloyd.
Barbara retired from the Sumner County school system, after many years of working as a custodian, her career started at the old White House Elementary under Mr. Woodall and soon under Mr. Goodner, before she moved on over to the high school, under Mr. Cordell.
She worked in the fields of both Robertson and Sumner county in the tobacco fields also, along with the chicken houses of New Deal back in the day:) and a few odd jobs in-between that through out the years also to make ends met.
In 2012, she decided that she needed something to do, being she retired from the schools. So, she purchased her first veggies and set up a small stand out of her red car on Highway 52 in Portland, this is where she stayed for a couple years with her from a few family members that land their time, before the state of Tennessee forbid anyone to be parked on Highway 52, and forced her to find another spot.
After looking around for a bit, a small parking area where countless others have sit up shop in the years past came available, so the stand at the 4-way stop at Cross Plains become her new home for many years.
From sun up til sun down, 7 days a week from early Spring too late fall, Barbara set her stand up, rain or shine for the most part.
Many people of each day drove past her with hundreds throughout the years have stopped and purchased her veggies from her stand.
Her white van in some ways became a land mark for passerby.
When the interstate was shut down, this gave an opportunity for people who not in an ordinary day to stop, gave them the time to stop and have chitchat with her.
In 2023, things did change for the stand, after a long battle with the darn COVID virus, the stand was forced to relocate to the home of Barbara, the future of it was uncertain at that time, but as fate has it, Barbaras younger sister Linda, took the helm of the stand, and continued the great service that everyone come to know each day.
In January , 2024... things seemed very bleak for the future of the stand, Barbara past away soundly in her sleep at home. The future of the stand was uncertain, but... after much thought, her sister has decided to continue the stand at the house, continuing the tradition in 2024.
We will keep your fresh on for all who stops.
REST IN PEACE
